Membranes

CUT GmbH & Co. KG produces flat membranes.

For a large part, our customers process these flat membranes to high-quality modules, or we install them into tailor-made pieces according to the customer’s order.

For this purposes, CUT disposes of an own membrane drawing installation which allows to process various membrane materials.

CUT is occupied mainly with the production of organic membranes (based on plastics), i.e. phase inversion membranes.

On a foundation in the form of a permeable fleece (backing or layer), a polymeric solution prepared in advance (PES, PS, PAN, CA, etc.) is applied. This solution is precipitated in an aqueous bath, the polymer coagulating in the fleece, while the hydrophilic solvent added to the polymeric solution remains in the water bath. The membrane or the coated fleece respectively is rinsed, modified chemically, if necessary, and then conserved. These processes depend on the precipitation velocity, the temperature and the pH value of the precipitation bath. During precipitation of the polymeric solution, pores develop in the coating due to the solution of the solvent and its transition into the bath. By this process, the porosity of the membrane is determined and, with this, its character.

Subsequently the membrane is soaked with a glycerine or a surfactant, serving to stabilize the pore in the membrane for the following drying process and to conserve the membrane. The membrane film is then dried in a dryer at a defined temperature.
