Well-known examples are the production of drinking water from sea water as well as the clarification of edible vinegar or wine.

Since commercial membranes for micro-, ultra-and nanofiltration and for reverse osmosis have been available, the range of application has been enlarged significantly by consequent further development of membrane materials and modules. The technology still being young, its range of application continues to increase and is not at all exhausted.  

Today it’s hard to imagine the production chains of a multitude of consumer goods without membrane processes. Corresponding to the underlying production processes, conventional pressure-driven membrane processes are found in a whole variety of applications.
