Membrane separation processes have proved successful in environmental protection. As a result of their multi-purpose and reliable applicability, they have become more and more accepted not only in industrial but also in municipal waste water treatment. Only in rare cases membrane processes are optimally applicable as unique step for the solution of practical separation problems. On the contrary, well thought-out process combinations often provide the desired economically and technically feasible result.
