From the production of films and during film processing, liquors result that have to be disposed of: used fixing baths, developers and rinsing waters from treatment processes. For the industry this is only a small problem because these liquids are often directly treated.
However, this kind of treatment is profitable only if larger quantities are produced. Thus the situation of small developers and amateur photographers is more problematic. In Germany, these liquids are collected and treated in plants with special equipment, membrane technology playing an important part.
